August 2010 Beaded 3D Dolphin Whale Project

You can find a variety of Free Arts and Craft Project here, including beaded project and other project. This month, I would like to feature the instruction on a beaded 3D Dolphin Whale made with Japanese glass seed beads, using right angle weave beading technique.

Beaded 3D Dolphin Whale

The pictorials are illustrated with spaces between beads for a clearer direction, in the actual beading, there should be no spaces.

What you need:
1)  Size 11/0 glass seed beads (using colour combinations of choice) Tutorial using
     Blue, White and Black. Four Size 12/0 same colour seed  bead.
2)  Beading string (0.25mm).
Beaded Dolphin Tutorial
Step 1: Cut a piece of beading string around half meter long.
Start beading from the tail part.
  • Add four blue seed beads at the centre of the string and crisscross the string through the last added bead to form a 4 bead circle as shown.

Step 2: Continue to: (work only on one end of the string)
  • Add four blue beads and one size 12/0 blue bead on the left (red) string.
    Pass this same string back down the fourth bead added in this step.
    Add four new blue beads.
    Continue to pass same string up through four old beads from step 1 marked A, B, C and D.

Step 3: Continue to:
  • Repeat step 2 with the other black string, in the opposite direction.
    You should have both strings coming out of the bead marked D.

Step 4: Continue to:(you can ignore the beaded tail except for the bead that the strings are coming out from)
  • Add three blue beads on the right (black) string, crisscross the other (red) string through the last bead added.

Step 5: Continue to:
  • Add two blue beads on the bottom (red) string and crisscross the top (black) string through the last bead added.
    Continue to pass the red string (the one you used to add new beads on this step) through one old bead from step 1 marked A.

Step 6: Continue to:
  • Add two blue beads on the left (black) string and crisscross the right (red) string through the last bead added.
    Continue to pass the black string (the one you used to add new beads on this step) through one old bead from step 4 marked A.

Step 7: Continue to:
  • Add one blue bead to crisscross both strings through.
  • You should end up with a four bead ring like this:

Step 8: Continue to:
  • Add three blue beads on the top (black) string and crisscross the bottom (red) string through the last bead added.
    Continue to pass the black string (the one you used to add new beads on this step) through one old bead marked A.

Step 9: Continue to:
  • Add two blue beads on the right (red) string and crisscross the left (black) string through the last bead added.
    Continue to pass the red string (the one you used to add new beads on this step) through one old bead marked A.

Step 10: Continue to:
  • Add two blue beads on the bottom (black) string and crisscross the top (red) string through the last bead added.
    Continue to pass the black string (the one you used to add new beads on this step) through two old beads marked A and B.

Step 11: Continue to:
  • Add one blue bead to crisscross both strings through.
  • You should end up with a four bead ring like this:

Step 12: Continue to:
  • Add three blue beads on the left (black) string and crisscross the right (red) string through the last bead added.
    Continue to pass the black string (the one you used to add new beads on this step) through one old bead marked A.

Step 13: Continue to:
  • Add three blue beads on the top (red) string and crisscross the bottom (black) string through the last bead added.
    Continue to pass the red string (the one you used to add new beads on this step) through one old bead marked A.

Step 14: Continue to:
  • Add two blue beads on the right (black) string and crisscross the left (red) string through the last bead added.
    Continue to pass the black string (the one you used to add new beads on this step) through two old beads marked A and B.

Step 15: Continue to:
  • Add two blue beads on the bottom (red) string and crisscross the top (black) string through the last bead added.
  • You should end up with a six bead ring like this:
