August 2007 Beaded 3-D Seal Project Page 4

Free Arts and Craft Project here, including beaded project and other project. This month's project is a 3-D beaded Seal Charm made with Japanese seed beads using the Right Angle Weave technique (RAW). Great as a fashion accessory or as a jewelry gift. This is a continual from page 3 of beaded seal tutorial.

If you found this tutorial page first, please go back to Page 1, Page 2 or Page 3 of the tutorial to start off.

Tutorials pictures are getting bigger so might take longer than the previous two pages to load, please be patient.

The pictorials are illustrated with spaces between beads for a clearer direction, in the actual beading, there should be no spaces.

Always Remember to pull tight on EVERY STEP.

Step 43:
  • This is the start of a new layer of bead circles: You should have four beads in the center (shown by the lighter gray color beads in the center) The red dot is where you stopped at step 42.
  • Continue to:

Add two new champagne beads on the top (red) string, crisscross the bottom (blue) string through the last added bead. Continue to pass the red string (the one you used to add new beads on) through the one bottom right champagne bead (Marked 1) from step 39 (shown where the red arrow is coming out from).
Step 44:
  • Continue to:

Add one new champagne bead on the left (blue) string, crisscross the right (red) string through the last added bead. Continue to pass the blue string (the one you used to add new beads on) through the one top champagne bead (Marked 1) from step 40 (shown where the blue arrow is coming out from).
Step 45:
  • Continue to:

Add one new champagne bead on the bottom (red) string, crisscross the top (blue) string through the last added bead. Continue to pass the red string (the one you used to add new beads on) through the two left champagne beads (Marked 1 and 2) from step 41 and 43 (shown where the red arrow is coming out from).
  • This is the end of the beading for the seal's body. You may want to tie off and string the remaining strings back through the piece to make it stronger (before cutting away excess).
Step 46:
  • Add the Tail Flippers:

Cut a short piece of 0.25 mm wire around 3 to 4 inches long.
Place the seal on it's belly, you should see 4 beads on it's tail part. One on top, one on each side and one at the bottom.
Pass each end of the wire through each side of the side beads (left and right beads). (The red dot is the middle of the wire)
  • Working on one side first, add 5 new champagne beads on one side of the wire, pass this wire through an old bead which is the bottom bead I mentioned earlier. Repeat for the other side, tie the wire and loop the remainder back through the piece in any order to secure the tail flippers.
Making this with wire makes it possible to shape the flippers anyway you like later.
Step 47:
  • Side Flippers:

This picture where I marked with green beads shows where the side flippers should be attached.

Step 48:
  • Working on one side of the flippers first, Cut a piece of 0.25mm wire around 2 to 3 inches long.
  • Pass one end of the wire through the one bead from the body marked with green on the above picture. Balance out both ends of the wire so the the center of the wire is exactly in the bead that you just passed through.
  • Add two beads on each side of the wires, add one more to crisscross both wires through.
Continue to loop the wire back through one bead on each side (shown where the red and blue arrows are coming out from).
Step 49:
  • Continue to:

Add two new beads on the left (red) string, loop the wire back through the same bead that the wire had started before adding the new beads, loop the wire further back down the two beads below (shown where the red arrow is coming out of).
Repeat the same thing on the right side with the blue string.
Now you can loop the wire as far back into the seals' body as possible to strengthen the side flippers, tie off and cut away excess.
  • Repeat step 48 and 49 for the other side of the seal's flipper.

There you have it you are done, unless you want to add on a hook to make it a pendant or earrings or charm. Just simply open a jump ring with two pliers and hook the jump ring on the head of the seal, close the jump ring and you can hook this baby seal on anything you like.
