Project of the Month (October)

Make your own compass

You will Need:
1)    One small horse-shoe Magnet
2)    3 Needles
3)    A small strip of paper
4)    Some Plasticine
5)    Sticky tape
6)    Scissor

Step 1:

Hold a needle by the head (where the hole is) and stroke it gently about 10 times with a magnet.
Always move the magnet in the same direction.

Step 2:	Stroke a second needle in the same way as Step 1.
	Fold the strip of paper into half and stick the needle on to it with tape like the picture shown.
	Both needle must point the same direction.

Step 3:	Push the 3rd needle head into a lump of plasticine.
	Mark the needle head point (where the hole is) with an "S" and the needle point end with an "N".
	Balance the paper on top so that it can swing.

Step 4:	If you want to bring the compass out door, just hang the "N" "S" paper strip by a thread in the middle.
	Tie the other end of the string to a pencil or stick and drop the paper into a glass jar like shown in the picture.
