bead jewelry making - beaded flower making

July 2011 Beaded Cake Project.

You can find a variety of Free Arts and Craft Project here, including beading tutorials and other project. This month's project is a 3D beaded cake charm, made with Japanese glass seed beads using right angle weave Beading technique and a few crystals and color beads as toppings for the cake. Great as earrings, pendant or simply as a charm. This is page five of the full beaded cake tutorial.

The pictorials are illustrated with spaces between beads for a clearer direction, in the actual beading, there should be no spaces.

Tie off and pass the excess strings back through the finished cake piece.

Beaded Cake step 78
Step 79:
  • Cut a new piece of string or even wire (0.25mm)

Add one bead of choice of topping, follow by a smallest size bead you can find and pass the string back through the bead topping you first added.
Continue to repeat this on the same string and you can even add a few other types of beads like the leaf bead as shown.
Remember to add one bead with slightly bigger hole as you will need it to pass the head pin through afterwards.
Pull tight and tie off the two ends of the string to make a bunch of beads varieties toppings for the cake.
Beaded Cake step 79
Step 80:
  • Adding the topping to the beaded cake:

Taking the topping beads that you just tied together, choose the one with the biggest hole (in my case the Orange bead) pass the head pin that you have earlier beaded into the center of the cake up through the hole in the big orange bead.
Measure around 1cm of the protruding head pin wire and cut the excess away with wire cutter.
Using pliers, bent the protruding pin wire to a 90 degree angle, using a round tip pliers curl the wire from tip inwards to the center of the bead to form a loop.

Now you can add on hooks to make pendants, charms or even earrings out of the beaded cake you just finished making.
