January 2006 Beaded 3D Snowflake

You can find a variety of Free Arts and Craft Project here, including beaded project and other project.  This month, I would like to feature the instruction on a beaded 3D Snowflake made using 4mm beads or crystals, long bugle beads and seed beads.

Beaded 3D Snowflake

The pictorials are illustrated with spaces between beads for a clearer direction, in the actual beading, there should be no spaces.

Step 1: Cut a piece of thread around half a meter long.
String on 6 small seed beads. Cross both ends of the thread at the last added bead as shown.
Remember to balance out both end of the threads - both end of the thread should be the same length and your beaded ring should be at the middle of the thread.
Step 2: On the left string, add on one crystal, follow by: one small seed bead, one long bugle, a small seed bead, one more crystal, one small seed bead, one long bugle, one small seed bead and one last crystal. continue to loop this thread through the adjoining seed bead from the bead circle you created in step 1.

Cross the right thread through the last added crystal and seed bead as shown with the black line in the picture.
Step 3: The left thread here is represented in black.
Take the left thread, add on one long bugle, one small seed bead, one crystal, one small seed bead, one long bugle, one small seed bead and one last crystal, make sure you continue to pass this string through the next adjoining seed bead from the bead circle again.

Take the right thread and loop through the last added crystal and small seed bead from the left thread.
Step 4: Now that you are familiar with the technique, I'll go a bit faster.
Repeat step 3 all way round 3 more times.
The last step on this side of the snowflake:
loop the right thread (in blue in last pointed sow flake) through one adjoining seed bead and also loop through the crystal and one more seed bead from step 2.
On the left thread, add one long bugle, one small seed bead and one crystal.
On the right thread, add one long bugle, one small seed bead and loop this thread through the last crystal added on the left thread.
You can tie off now.

Make one more of this (repeating step 1 to 4 again)
Step 5: Joining:Cut a new piece of thread. Add on two seed beads (represented in green), pass each end of the thread through one tip crystal on each snowflake you made earlier. Continue to add two seed beads and crisscross both threads through this two seed beads.
Step 6: Continue joining: after step 5, loop each end of the threads through the adjoining one seed bead and one long bugle on each side.
Add 2 seed beads, crisscross both threads.
Again loop each end of the threads through the adjoining one bugle and one seed bead.
Add 2 seed beads, crisscross both threads.

Keep repeating step 5 and 6 until you have joined the two piece of snowflake to make them 3D.

You can pass a chain through joined area to make it a pendant or just add a string to hang it on your Christmas tree.
